Valentine’s Day Date Look

One thing I love about Valentine’s Day is the excuse to wear a bright red dress! I bought this red dress from J. Crew Factory a few years ago and it has more than paid for it’s stay in my closet. Not only does this dress fit like a glove, it is so flattering and can be worn almost year round.

I have two red dresses, both from J. Crew Factory now that I think of it, and I love how both of them make me feel. I think bright red and hot pink are awesome power colors. When I see these colors on objects (like cars, pots and pans, etc.) they don’t tend to strike me, but on fashion I am instantly drawn to them.

These hot pink shoes I bought from Ann Taylor about two years ago and I get so many compliments on them. People on the street will come up to me and ask where I bought them. Sam Edelman makes a comparable pair with a slightly higher heel that I will link below, but if you are fan of a power shoe these are the ones to get!

These maroon tights however were a HUGE fail. What you don’t see under the dress is that these tights must have been made for a small child because they only sat on my hips and not my waist. So I have some serious drop crotch going on! I also bought them online thinking they would be much more maroon/purple than what I received. I chucked them right after the photo (no returns, bummer) but you live and learn! This look would have really been complete with a gorgeous maroon tight, but you’ve got to work with what you have! I also could have paired a black tight and it would have looked just as nice.

I also did a full face of makeup for these pictures and I want to link some of the products I used. First, my eye shadow is the Naked3 palette that I received for Christmas and I don’t know how I lived without it! I used Burnout on my lid, Nooner in the crease, and a little bit of Dust on the inside of my eye for some glitter. For below the brow and my highlight, I used Laura Geller highlight in Gilded Honey. My blush is my go to shade, Bareminerals Beauty. I have been buying this blush since high school and it the perfect winter shade for me. Finally, my lips are NYX lipstick in Tea Rose. Because of the red dress, I wanted a very pink look.
